POSITION SUMMARY:

The Animal Care Technician - Foster Admissions role works to uphold the organization mission to be a community resource that helps animals in need through sheltering, adoption, education, veterinary services, and community outreach.

This position maintains the physical and mental care of the shelter animals and recruits foster volunteers to help the shelter animals with their unique needs until they find their permanent adoptive home. This position will collaborate with all staff to ensure the foster program runs efficiently and in the best interest of RCHS

Additional job responsibilities include but are not limited to: routine clerical, secretarial and administrative, answering phones, receiving the public, providing customer service, cashiering, data processing, filing and typing. Cleaning all animal areas as well as general areas of the shelter, feeding and caring for the animals and operating the crematorium are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Animal Care Technician

  • Maintain positive communication with RCHS patrons, volunteers, fosters, local organizations, and the general public to promote RCHS mission, goals, and programs.
  • Cleans, feeds and provides care for shelter animals on a daily basis.
  • Clear and timely communication with medical team and upper management regarding the medical needs of the shelter animals
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Answers phones, receives the public, facilitates and processes adoptions;
  • Process animal intakes in accordance with RCHS policies and contractual obligations
  • Follows animal enrichment/behavior modification plans utilizing positive reinforcement techniques
  • Assists with grant related programs and provides administrative support with scheduling, client interaction and participation, and related duties;
  • Adheres to all PACFA regulations;
  • Other duties as assigned which may include, but are not limited to, assisting with tasks in the volunteer program, clinic coordination, and etc.

Foster Admissions:

  • Review and follow up with new foster applications;
  • Serve as secondary contact for foster volunteers;
  • In accordance with PACFA standards, conducts annual home inspections (19.12.2) and maintain a list of approved fosters in shelter database (19.12.1)
  • Keep all foster materials and programs up to date, and provide appropriate orientation materials, manuals, and handouts to all foster volunteers;
  • Follow-up with long-term fosters regularly to ensure their satisfaction and compliance with our foster programs and services;
  • Keep all staff up to date on changes to foster programs; provide staff training for foster program procedures as needed; ensure that staff are providing accurate information to foster volunteers;
  • Track data on foster programs

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices, such as typing, filing, data processing.
  • Two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with other managers and staff members in order to accomplish daily tasks as well as strategic plans.
  • 40 hour work week. Must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Experience working with animals is desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to gain coverage through our motor vehicle insurance is required.

  • Knowledge of basic animal health care and safe animal handling practices
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with outside organizations.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Exhibited flexibility and professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required;
  • Proficiency in computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Suite.
