Dental Hygiene Instructor - Clinic Only Salina Area Technical College • Job Title: Dental Hygiene Instructor Clinic Only Reports To: Director of Allied Dental Education Required Qualifications Associates degree from program accredited by CODA 3 Years clinical experience Registered Dental Hygienist License current with state of Kansas Current CPR Certification Local Anesthesia Certification for Dental Hygienist Nitrous Oxide Certification for Dental Hygienist Preferred Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Science and Bachelors Degree from program accredited by CODA 1 year teaching experience with background in education theory and practice Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Effective oral and written communication skills Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty Knowledge of computers and current technology, dental software, and radiography Familiarity with laws governing dental hygiene practice in Kansas Current of dental hygiene clinic practice experience Position Summary To provide instruction and supervision to students in Dental Hygiene program in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Participate in department and committee assignments, recruiting, and other academic, institutional and community support activities. Provide input to the Director of Allied Dental Education and Vice President of Instruction relative to new course development and program redesign. Prepare students to succeed in related employment. Essential Job Functions: Teach an appropriate load as required by the negotiated agreement and supervise students in lab and clinical settings Maintain current knowledge, changes, and technology in the field Deliver the approved course of study as outlined in the syllabus, maintain a student-oriented approach to education, demonstrate procedures as needed Provide individual and group instruction; provide immediate, routine, consistent feedback to assist students in improving performance in technical and core ability competencies Assist students in accurately recording all relevant pertinent information in patient record Perform quality assurance of patient records Oversee students in obtaining oral hygiene assessment data, creating an oral health care plan, performing oral hygiene services - prophylaxis, scaling, sealant, fluoride application Identify, evaluate, implement, and modify instructional materials, technologies, methods, and textbooks based on student and industry assessments and feedback Evaluate student learning and teaching effectiveness through written, oral, practical and/or performance testing, ensuring that what it taught is evaluated, evaluations by skill and clinical competencies Provide support and guidance to students with an aim toward retention and job placement.
