Group Warehouse & Assembly Operative (WAO)

Group Warehouse & Assembly Operative (WAO)

Location: PETERBOROUGH, UK

Group Entities: Alrose Products & Falcon Special Products

Reports to: UK Operations Manager

Overview

We are looking for a versatile and driven Group Warehouse & Assembly Operative to join our production team. This is a unique "Group Role" that works across two distinct manufacturing disciplines: the precision assembly of gas springs for Alrose Products and the handling/finishing of fabricated products for FSP.

This is not a heavy machining role; rather, it is a key operational position that bridges the gap between final assembly, stock management, and despatch. You will ensure that products are assembled to high standards, stocked accurately, and despatched on time using our computerised courier systems.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a practical, hands-on individual who is comfortable moving between precision work (small components) and heavy-duty warehousing (steel products).

  • Essential: Computer literate (confident using booking systems, email, and stock software).
  • Essential: Experience in a warehouse or assembly environment.
  • Essential: Physically fit and capable of manual handling (some FSP products are heavy).
  • Desirable: Forklift Truck (FLT) License (Counterbalance/Reach).
  • Desirable: Ability to read basic technical drawings/packing specs.

Role & Responsibilities

The role is multifaceted, requiring you to learn processes for both companies. Full internal training will be provided, but you will be expected to master the following key areas:

1. Warehouse, Logistics & Computer Operations

  • Despatch Preparation: Book couriers and process shipping labels via online portals (e.g., UPS, DHL, Palletways) ensuring 100% accuracy in address and weight data.
  • Stock Management: Perform regular cycle counts and stock checks to ensure physical stock matches the computer system.
  • Goods In/Out: Receive raw materials and finished goods, checking them for damage and quantity before booking them into the system.
  • Packing: Securely pack a wide variety of goods—ranging from delicate Alrose gas springs requiring specific protection to heavy FSP steel access covers requiring palletisation and strapping.

2. Alrose Products – Precision Assembly

  • Gas Spring Assembly: Assemble piston rods, seals, and cylinders using hand tools and semi-automated rigs.
  • Regassing & Testing: Operate the gas-filling station to pressurise springs to customer specifications and force-test them on test rigs.
  • Finishing: Attach end-fittings (eyelets, ball joints) according to the Works Order.

3. FSP – Production Support

  • Machine Tending: Load and unload materials for automated machinery, alerting supervisors to any faults.
  • Deburring & Finishing: Use hand grinders or linishing tools to remove sharp edges (burrs) from cut parts before they move to the warehouse.
  • Polishing: Polishing Acrylic panels to very high standard.
  • Kitting: Collate ancillary parts (keys, bolts, seals) for FSP prior to despatch.

Key Duties & Expectations

  • Works Orders: Ability to read and follow production route cards and Works Orders independently.
  • Quality Control: Perform "In-process inspection"—checking your own work (e.g., verifying force or checking steel parts for finish quality) before passing it to the next stage.
  • 5S & Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and safe working environment. This includes emptying waste bins, keeping aisles clear for FLTs, and organizing packing benches.
  • Machine Maintenance: Basic level checks (topping up coolants/oils) and keeping equipment clean.

Measures of Performance

We strive for continual improvement. Your success in this role will be measured by:

  • Despatch Accuracy: Orders shipped on time, to the correct address, with the correct paperwork.
  • Stock Accuracy: Minimal discrepancies between physical stock and system figures.
  • Assembly Quality: Low rejection rate for assembled parts or kits.
  • Efficiency: Meeting daily packing and assembly targets.

Hard Skills & Qualifications

  • Logistics: Competent in wrapping pallets, strapping loads, and using handheld scanners/measuring equipment.
  • IT Skills: Confident usage of Windows-based PCs for courier booking and stock entry.
  • Tools: Competent in the use of air tools, hand drills, angle grinders, and band saws.
  • Assembly: Experience in light mechanical assembly (nuts, bolts, seals, hydraulics).
