Maintenance Technician(Lake Tyler)

Performs heavy manual labor and support of plant operations/water supply personnel; to repair, maintain, and operate water supply/water and wastewater treatment systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform general labor tasks, including cleaning, groundskeeping, and material handling.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, valves, piping, and other plant equipment.
  • Assists with both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance projects.
  • Assists with the loading /unloading of materials, supplies, etc.
  • Excavation by hand using shovels, picks and other tools.
  • Load/unload materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Pick up trash / empty trash, drums
  • Perform mowing, raking, and trimming brush using power tools.
  • Ability to use a computer for basic functions.
  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools.
  • Report hazards, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Assist in handling chemicals and materials according to safety guidelines.
  • Document maintenance activities and assist with inventory control.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :
  • Assists in the removal of limbs, brush, and debris for disposal.
  • Paints /repairs equipment and facilities.
  • Repairs /builds various structures out of wood, steel, and concrete.
  • Repairs various equipment, structures, etc.
  • Maintenance and safe use of all hand and power tools.
  • Drive a truck to run errands.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Commitment to safety and attention to detail.
  • Have working knowledge and previous use of hand tools, power tools, tractors, cranes, winches, pumps, mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, and welding machines.
  • Ability to work indoors /outdoors, in various temperature extremes.
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively with other employees.
  • Must have good vision, hearing, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to read/ speak English; understand and carry out oral instructions.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to lift 80 lbs. occasionally, lift 50 lbs. frequently, lift 20 lbs. regularly, stand, walk, climb, bend, balance, stoop, crouch, and crawl up to 8 hours daily


Education and Experience :

High School diploma or GED preferred. One (1) year of experience in manual labor is preferred. Utilities experience preferred. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record.

Utilities experience is helpful but not required.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
