This crew has the unique privilege of building parks for the residents of Olathe to enjoy. In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks from concreted to framing to roofing and everything in between. A typical day might include pouring concrete, repairing a structure in a park, gathering materials for the next project, and installing an art display. If you like to be outside, have high-energy and patience, are a self-starter, and take pride in the work you attach your name to, keep reading. We’re looking for someone who has experience in carpentry, concrete, framing, or roofing; has a desire to learn and can pick new things up quickly; and likes variety and thrives in an environment where everyday is different. Members of our Parks Construction Crew enjoy a stable schedule, central work location, and quality tools and equipment. They receive an annual boot and clothing allowance, CDL training, and on-the-job training. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Pay Range: $23.75 to $31.79, depending on experience If selected for this position, you must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check, Driving Record Review, Physical, and Drug Screen. Lead and participate in the work of staff responsible for maintaining and/or constructing parks structures and equipment. Train assigned employees in their areas of work in construction and/or maintenance methods, techniques and in the setup and use of equipment. Maintain a safe job site and work environment following all safety standards set forth by the City, County, State and Federal agencies. Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specifications. Operate heavy machinery including mini excavator, skid steer loader, backhoe; drive a variety of vehicles including trucks, tractors, dump trucks with trailers, forklift. Interpret blueprints for maintenance and/or construction scheduling, cost estimating, material ordering for park development. Perform snow removal, overtime and other duties required. Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, including one year of supervisory or lead responsibility. Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience may be substituted for education. Licenses and Certificates: Must have a valid driver's license with favorable driving record. Must obtain a Class A commercial driver's license within six months of employment along with a DOT Medical Certification. May require specialty certification in assigned area. Environmental and Physical Demands: Will work outside in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Will be exposed to wind, sun, rain, pollen, allergens, and other elements. This work requires one to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, crawl, twist, and reach frequently throughout the day. Will ascend and descend ladders. Will work at heights. Will lift and carry weight up to 80 pounds independently and up to 160 pounds with someone else. Will operate a variety of hand and power tools used in maintenance and construction activities.
