Shift Type: PRN / Per diem — daytime evaluations; variable shifts: half-day shifts (up to 4 hours) or daily shifts (5+ hours). Days vary based on scheduling; primarily day shift with flexible scheduling to meet clinic needs.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Perform interview-based General Medicine and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) evaluations for Veterans
  • Conduct focused physical exams including range of motion and muscle strength testing using a goniometer
  • Administer METs testing and evaluate respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological findings as indicated
  • Complete standardized Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and submit them in the VES provider portal within 48 hours of each exam
  • Follow standardized form-based reporting — no narrative reports required
  • Complete required DMA training once privileged and attend the PEP session prior to first cases
  • Provide credentialing documentation (office photos, signed OSHA form) if seeing exams from a personal office
  • Coordinate with report analysts and the New Provider Liaison to ensure high-quality, timely case work
  • Be available to travel to other areas when requested; travel expenses reimbursed per VES guidelines

Qualifications

  • Board Certification in Neurology, Neurosurgery, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) — required
  • Experience evaluating Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and general medicine conditions
  • Skilled in range of motion (ROM) and muscle strength testing and comfortable using a goniometer
  • Proficient with METs testing and assessment of respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological conditions
  • Familiarity with standardized form-based reporting (DBQs) and ability to submit reports within 48 hours
  • Personal Windows/PC laptop required (no Apple/Mac laptops)
  • Willingness to obtain DMA certification after privileging and complete required trainings
  • Comfortable with virtual training and teleconferencing (Zoom/Microsoft Teams)
  • PRN / per diem availability; willingness to travel if requested

Education

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with Board Certification in Neurology, Neurosurgery, or PM&R

Knowledge & Skills

  • Traumatic Brain Injury evaluation techniques and clinical interviewing
  • Musculoskeletal assessment, diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory disease evaluation
  • Range of motion (ROM) testing and muscle strength grading
  • Goniometer use and measurement accuracy
  • METs testing knowledge and interpretation
  • Completion of standardized DBQs and form-based reporting
  • Experience using secure provider portals and electronic record submission (VES portal)
  • Teleconferencing tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) for training and coordination
  • Understanding of credentialing/privileging documentation requirements
