Position Summary:
The McGill Office of Sustainability and Utilities and Energy Management (UEM) are recruiting one student for a Water Data and Stewardship Internship. The intern will support the team in improving McGill’s understanding of campus water consumption and strengthening internal water data management.
This internship will expose the student to a range of activities related to utility data management, campus infrastructure monitoring, and operational water management. Tasks will include data compilation and verification, meter readings, database maintenance, and support for water system documentation and monitoring activities. The internship will also provide applied learning opportunities by connecting academic interests in sustainability, engineering, and resource management with a real operational challenge at McGill.

The position is intended as a full-time internship from May to the end of August, with the possibility of a part-time work from September to April to support continued data analysis, documentation, collaboration with ASR/course opportunities, and follow-up activities.
Tasks and Responsibilities may include:
- Compile, review, and verify water consumption data from multiple sources to support improved understanding of campus water use.
- Conduct water meter readings in selected buildings and assist with verification of water consumption records.
- Support the upkeep and improvement of the utility meter database, including verifying meter locations, updating infrastructure records, and assisting with documentation of metering systems.
- Assist with documentation and tracking related to water systems and infrastructure, including support for backflow preventer certification records and other compliance-related documentation.
- Support preliminary analysis of water consumption patterns across campus buildings and systems to help identify areas that may warrant further investigation.
- Assist Utilities and Energy Management staff with water-related monitoring, field verification, and infrastructure documentation activities as required.
Applicants must be a current McGill student and based in Montreal year-round (apart from vacations). Students from all faculties are welcome to apply.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

- Demonstrated ability to manage several tasks in parallel, plan one’s schedule accordingly, and keep track of one’s progress.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Knowledge in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, modelling, or project management is a plus.
