Property & Evidence Technician - SHERIFF

About the position

Responsibilities

  • Receive physical evidence, found property, personal property, and seized items into Sheriff's custody.
  • Inspect evidence and paperwork for accuracy and completeness, entering information into evidence tracking software.
  • Sort evidence into appropriate sections using mobile racking systems, refrigerators, and restricted areas.
  • Instruct employees on proper methods of marking, packaging, and submitting evidence.
  • Maintain detailed records of property transactions and assist individuals requesting property back.
  • Drive the Property van to pick up new evidence and paperwork from other divisions.
  • Transport evidence to the Regional Forensic Science Center for testing and assist with site pickups outside of normal hours.
  • Research and prepare journal entries for removal/disposal of evidence and property.
  • Attempt to reunite personal property with owners or authorized parties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in administrative work, warehouse/inventory, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • One year of experience with Microsoft Suite or similar systems.
  • Must pass a pre-employment test of 80% reading comprehension after the interview.
  • Valid US Kansas driver's license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
  • No record of criminal conviction, diversion, or expungement of any felony or crime of dishonesty.

Nice-to-haves
