Refuse Collection Foreman (For Current DPW Employees Only)
<p style="margin: 0 0 8pt">Under general supervision, supervises the collection of garbage or rubbish and the cleaning of streets and alleys.</p><ul style="margin-left: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Supervises the work of a moderately large group of subordinates employing trucks designed for a one-person and/or multiple person crew engaged in the collection of garbage or rubbish along designated routes in assigned section of the City or at a specified location.</li><li>Makes periodic inspections of work performed, reports on physical changes in routes to be covered, and requests additional help with necessary to maintain schedule.</li><li>Prepares time records on workers, trip records on trucks, and simple reports of yardage, tonnage, and work completed.</li><li>Checks and follows up on complaints and corrects deficient condition.</li><li>Locates minor malfunctions in equipment and makes repairs when appropriate.</li><li>Reports equipment in need of repair and schedules preventive maintenance.</li><li>Instructs employees in the performance of duties and in the care and operation of equipment.</li><li>Monitors employee attendance records and recommends discipline as needed. </li><li>Assists in the layout and determination of district pick ups, as assigned.</li><li>Closely watches, directs, and/or subsequently inspects the sweeping of streets, snow removal, and salting and sanding of icy streets.</li><li>Performs other duties concerned with collection and disposal of refuse such as locating dump grounds, seeing that dump grounds are kept in a usable condition, investigating complaints, and collecting tickets for removal of commercial rubbish.</li></ul><ul style="margin-left: -0.25in; margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>High School graduation or GED. </li><li>Two (2) years of experience in planning, and supervising the work of several groups of workers engaged in removing municipal waste and cleaning streets. </li></ul><u><strong>Evaluation Plan</strong></u><ul><li>Interview: 70%</li><li>Evaluation of Training, Experience & Personal Qualifications: 30%</li><li>Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P: 100%</li></ul><strong>Additional points may be awarded for:</strong><ul><li>Veteran Points: 0 – 15 points</li><li>Detroit Residency Credit: 15 points</li></ul>LRD: 10/03/2025
