<span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px;" data-pasted="true">The Transportation Worker 3 Traffic Control in this position will be assigned to the Traffic Engineering Division, but will report to various counties within District Five. District Five consists of Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, and Morgan counties. Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs manual and skilled work maintaining and repairing roadway signs. Key responsibilities include receiving and executing work orders for daily tasks, equipment, and materials. The worker is responsible for installing and repairing signs on breakaway supports in accordance with state standards and specifications; The employee must follow all procedures for traffic control and worksite safety, assist with monitoring material inventories, report material usage and needs to the supervisor, and report on the status of work performed to the crew supervisor. </span>Performs other related duties as required.<ul><li>The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). </li><li>The WVDOT is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of over 35,000 miles of state roads. This duty may necessitate employees working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice. </li><li>In the area of assignment of Traffic Control, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.</li><li>Pay Grade 12H<br>Tier 1 hourly rate: $22.7113<ul><li>Not eligible for Tier 4.</li></ul></li></ul><br><ul><li>At the DOH Central Sign Shop, various tools and equipment are utilized to fabricate highway road signs.</li><li>Fabricates sign support assemblies.</li><li>Utilizes metal shears, corner punch machine, sign hole punch machine, roller applicator, banding machine, and band saw machine to fabricate and repair road signs.</li><li>Install and/or erect new or repaired electronic traffic signal systems.</li><li>Inspect, repair, and maintain electronic traffic signal systems.</li><li>Operates a forklift and other warehouse equipment to maintain inventory of highway signs.</li><li>Prepares highway signs to be transported to other highway districts throughout the state for location and installation.</li><li>Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.</li><li><strong>In the area of assignment of Traffic Control, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.</strong></li></ul><br><p>• Knowledge of safety practices used in structural steel construction.<br>• Knowledge of the procedures, techniques, and equipment used in the area of assignment.<br>• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety standards and procedures in the area of assignment.<br>• Knowledge of basic blueprint reading.<br>• Knowledge of general construction and maintenance practices.<br>• Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gasoline and diesel-powered engines and their components.<br>• Knowledge of the operation of motor-driven equipment.<br>• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repairs.<br>• Ability to safely operate basic hand and power tools.<br>• Ability to read operation manuals, blueprints, and specifications in the area of assignment.<br>• Ability to operate motorized equipment in the area of assignment.<br>• Ability to perform skilled trades work in bridge construction and maintenance.<br>• Ability to operate and maintain highway equipment and attachments.<br>• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.<br>• Ability to maintain accurate records of daily maintenance activities and of gauges and meters used in heating, ventilation, and cooling systems.<br>• Ability to climb high steel structures.<br>• Ability to train and work cooperatively with other skilled and semi-skilled workers.</p><br><p><u><strong>REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION</strong></u><strong>: </strong>No formal education required.<br><u><strong>REQUIRED EXPERIENCE</strong></u><strong>: </strong>Option #1: Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the fabrication of aluminum or other metal parts, equipment, signs, or other fabricated materials. <br><strong>OR</strong> <br>Option #2: Four (4) years of full- time or equivalent part-time paid experience in electrical or electronics repair, fabrication of aluminum or other metal parts, equipment, signs, or other fabricated materials.<br><u>Experience </u><u>Substitutions:</u> Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience in the specified area of assignment. </p><p><br></p>
